 Postgraduate Students Present their Research Papers

Sylvester Hayker, (PhD Candidate) and Project Coordinator in the IDRC funded project in Kenya, successfully defended his PhD proposal on the 30th April 2015, at the department of Recreation Management and Exercise Science’s Post Graduate Board, and passed.

In the month of June 2015, his Proposal was presented at the School of Applied Human Science board of Post Graduate Board and was then presented again at the School Board in July 2015 and passed. The proposal was later presented at the Graduate School Board in August 2015 and passed. His proposal is on: “Determinants of active transport among 9 – 12 year old school children in Kisumu and Nairobi counties in Kenya”. He’s currently waiting for Substantive registration of his PhD Proposal at the graduate School. .Read More.....

Postgraduate Students Present their Research Papers

Everlyne Amile, a master’s student and a Project Coordinator in the IDRC funded project in Kenya defended her research proposal on: Factors affecting active transport among 9-12 year old School Children in Buruburu and Githurai neighbourhoods, Nairobi County, Kenya. She analysed her data to answer the research objectives. She has submitted her report to internal examiners for marking. She was overseen by Prof. Caleb Mireri and Dr. Vincent Onywera. Further still, she is developing a paper based on her report for publication.

 

PAAT RESEARCH UPDATE

Physical Activity and Active Transport (PAAT) Research Project began with the training of research assistants on data quality management i.e. data collection and quality control. This paved way for data collection.  PAAT involves four research locations: Kenya, Nigeria, Mozambique and Canada. The Kenya site (Kenyatta University) serves as the coordinating centre for the project.
